Tourism Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala has launched a Magical Kenya branded Dreamliner Boeing 787 in a move aimed at promoting tourism.
Accompanied by Principal Secretary Fatima Hirsi, CS Najib Balala also launched a Tourism Information Centre at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) Terminal 1A in Nairobi.
Speaking at the launch, Balala said the government is committed to ensure a transformed tourism sector and promote growth in number of tourists visiting the country.
“We have started with one Dreamliner, our target it to get seven dreamliners all branded Magical Kenya as we seek to grow tourism,” said CS Najib Balala.
Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) CEO Betty Raider said Magical Kenya will use the Kenya Airways’ visibility to grow tourism sector by improving awareness in other countries.
The tourism sector which has been facing a drop in numbers in recent years was dealt a blow after Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich reduced the budget for recovery programmes from Ksh4.5 billion last year to Ksh2.7 billion in the 2017/18 Budget.
